SANTOS TOUR UNDER: PHIL BAUHAUS GANA LA PRIMERA ETAPA

 

Tras llegar agrupados a los últimos 3 kilómetros, los hombres rápidos del pelotón se prepararon para el sprint, pero una caída en los últimos 2.000 metros dejó desestructurado el tren de algunas escuadras y a media docena de ciclistas en el suelo.

En la recta de meta, Bauhaus fue el primero en pasar al frente y en un final agónico pudo mantener la posición ante un Caleb Ewan portentoso que remontó siete posiciones en los últimos doscientos metros. Le faltaron unos centímetros al `cohete de bolsillo´ que lanzó la bicicleta al paso por la línea de meta pero no pudo superar a Bauhaus.

"Hoy ha sido un día muy nervioso, muchos chicos, por desgracia, se han ido al suelo. He sufrido una caída bastante fuerte, un gran impacto, pero he podido recuperarme. El equipo ha hecho un trabajo realmente bueno. Siempre estuvimos delante en la última vuelta. En la Schwalbe Classic, esperé demasiado, así que me fui a falta de 300 metros. Caleb Ewan estuvo cerca, pero sí, gané, estoy súper contento", explicó Phil Bauhaus.

El italiano Alberto Bettiol (EF Education-EasyPost), que se enfundó el maillot ocre de líder al conseguir la victoria en la etapa prólogo, se mantuvo al frente de la clasificación general individual de la ronda australiana.

Bettiol cuenta ahora con 6 y 8 segundos de renta sobre el australiano Michael Matthews y el estadounidense Magnus Sheffield (Ineos Grenadiers), segundo y tercero respectivamente.

El Tour Down Under continuará este jueves con la disputa de su segunda etapa en línea, de 154,8 kilómetros y que enlazará las localidades de Brighton y Victor Harbor.
